Gayle King, veteran journalist and footwear trailblazer, made an appearance at the Paley Center for Media on Oct. 22 in an ensemble that revived a trend she’s championed in the past: mismatched shoes.
King dressed up for the event honoring “CBS Mornings,” the show on which she serves as co-anchor, in a fitted scarlet dress. The garment featured a pencil skirt with a hemline past the knees in addition to short sleeves and a unique variation on a sweetheart neckline. Some of her accessories included a dainty silver necklace with a heart pendant and a wide bangle. She matched her makeup to her red dress while her hair was styled in a swishy bob.
King shook things up when it came to her footwear. Maintaining the color scheme established by her dress, she slipped on two ruby red stilettos — which, upon close inspection, one might notice did not come from the same box. On her right foot, she wore a shiny metallic pump with reptile embossment. On her left foot, she modeled a similar silhouette, but this heel featured an abstract swirling black pattern in some realm between floral and paisley. Both shoes were designed with a pointed toe and an upper with a gentle curve, while heels lifted the pumps to similar heights.

However, King is not afraid of wearing shoes that are two different heights. She previously embraced the mismatched shoe trend in a striking pairing involving a colorful floral Croc and a blue and green heel. She modeled this memorable look at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival while dealing with achilles tendonitis.
In recent days, King has shown off quite a few bold red shoes. At Glamour’s 2024 Women of the Year Awards held earlier in October, she wore a pair of embellished D’orsay pumps from Badgley Mischka; in September, she rocked the color again with a pair of pointed suede boots at the “Coriolanus” after party.
