A retro Nike sneaker is about to take on the look of the most beloved Batman villain.

A new edition of the Nike Air Max 180 has immediately drawn comparisons to the Joker for its use of lime green and purple. Most of the suede and neoprene sneaker arrives in black, but its accenting colors invoke the Joker’s famous wardrobe. The outsole extends to the midsole’s arc over the heel Air Max unit in lime green to match the laces and Nike Air heel logo, while the heel stabilizer and tongue “180” mark arrive in purple. A portion of the outsole also arrives in translucent purple beneath the Air Max unit, and capping off the sneaker is a white suede Swoosh.

Sneakerheads regularly give a “Joker” nickname to sneakers making use of green and purple, but Stray Rats and New Balance invoked Batman’s nemesis in official fashion for a 2019 993v3 collaboration.

The Air Max 180 made its debut in 1991 and was the brain child of two legendary Nike designers, Tinker Hatfield and Bruce Kilgore. The idea was to make Air Max technology more visible then ever, and a blow moulding process allowed it to take up more territory through the heel. Urethane was also used for an outsole for the first time on the model, while neoprene helped provide a snug fit.

Just this year, Nike brought back the Air Max 180 with a one-to-one recreation of its original proportions for the first time in the “Ultramarine” colorway. The return of the “Concord” edition was also relished, as it was worn by Michael Jordan in a photoshoot for the 1992 Olympic “Dream Team.”

The Nike Air Max 180 “Joker” doesn’t yet have a firm release date but is expected to release before the end of 2024 with a price of $150. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.

Crocs Has a Batmobile-Inspired ‘Batman’ Collaboration and It’s Already Selling Out https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/batman-crocs-classic-clog-batmobile-1203677214/ Thu, 15 Aug 2024 20:16:59 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203677214

Pop culture collaborations are commonplace in the world of footwear, but few brands are pulling them off quite like Crocs. Whether it’s a beloved Japanese cartoon such as Gundam and Naruto or a children’s favorite like Minions and Lightning Mcqueen, Crocs’ collaborations are often well-timed and thoughtfully executed. The shapeshifting nature of the brand’s ubiquitous Classic Clog allows it to be molded and modified to take on nearly any inspiration — including Batman’s iconic vehicle.

Released yesterday at select overseas retailers is the Batman x Crocs Classic Clog “Batmobile.” For this collab, Crocs made full use of the surface area on the Classic Clog, sparing no detail as it mimics the sleek stylings of the Batmobile. Most noticeable is the “sports mode” heel strap which includes a glossy bat wing spoiler on the lateral side.

Headlights, taillights, wheels, exhaust and other car parts are referenced on the midsole, while the foam upper is fashioned as a hood including a glossy windshield portion. Of course, Batman and Batmobile-branded Jibbitz charms are also included with the shoes.

Crocs’ pop culture push and lifestyle collaborations with designers such as Salehe Bembury have propelled the brand in recent years. The Broomfield, Colo.-based company announced August 1 its 2024 second-quarter earnings, touting over $1.1 billion in revenue, which was the largest quarterly achievement in the brand’s history. CEO Andrew Rees said growth was led by the Classic Clog but emphasized the brand’s focus on expanding its categories with new sandals and sneakers. Bembury’s latest Crocs project, the Juniper sneaker, will be released September 5 in a new “Tahini” colorway.

This isn’t the first Batman x Crocs collaboration. In June 2023, the two entities came together for a Classic Clog adorned with the character’s black-and-yellow logo.

Priced at $70, the Batman x Crocs Classic Clog “Batmobile” has already sold out at overseas retailers such as Afew, Solebox and Heppo, but more international launches are expected soon. A U.S. release date has not yet been confirmed. Check back for official launch details as they’re announced.

Crocs revamped its clog style with help from Batman.

The footwear giant teamed up with the beloved franchise once again to create an adjustable clog style based on the iconic crime-fighting comic book character. The footwear retails for $60 and comes in a black and yellow colorway, available for kids and adults.

The Crocs x Batman style also features the Batman logo plastered on the sole of each shoe in bold yellow lettering and includes new additions, like slip-resistant outsoles and adjustable heel straps that offer a customized fit. The new tech straps have textured pull tabs for easy on-and-off action.

Additionally, the shoe includes Crocs Lock slip-resistant treads, also featured in the Crocs at Work collection.

Like any other Crocs style, the Batman clog can be personalized with help from holes on the uppers that can be filled with a wide array of Jibbitz charms found on Crocs’ website. As always, the clogs are lightweight, water-friendly, airy ventilation holes, quick drying and easy to clean.

Last year, Crocs created a kids’ classic clog style in the past with Batman motifs in a deep grayish-blue with yellow straps. The style is still available for purchase on their website.

This has been a big year for Crocs so far. In terms of collaborations, the footwear company has teamed up with a myriad of franchises, dabbling in the worlds of Lisa Frank, Minecraft, Sonic The Hedgehog, Hello Kitty and Pokemon in the past, creating equally colorful clogs, sandals and Jibbitz inspired by each institution’s characters and color schemes.

Throughout the brand’s history, Crocs has also collaborated with top names in television, music, fashion and food like Balenciaga, KFC, Diplo, Jimmy Fallon, SZA and Grateful Dead among others.

The Crocs x Batman adjustable clog is available for purchase now on Crocs’ website.

Kylie Jenner Teases Kylie Cosmetics X Batman Collection with Dramatic Gotham-Inspired Eyeliner & Leather Jumpsuit https://footwearnews.com/fashion/collaborations/kylie-jenner-kylie-cosmetics-batman-collab-jumpsuit-1203356657/ Wed, 12 Oct 2022 17:19:41 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203356657 Halloween is still a few weeks away, but Kylie Jenner is already in the spooky spirit. On Tuesday, the billionaire beauty mogul took to Instagram to unveil a surprising new Kylie Cosmetics collaboration with Warner Bros. and DC.

Jenner teased a Batman x Kylie Cosmetics collection, which officially launches on Oct. 19. The superhero-themed line is covered in comic-style illustrations and includes an eyeshadow palette, eyeliner set, two lip glosses, matte paint lipstick and a Gotham city illuminating highlighter.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CjloVFgLf5Q/

Of course Jenner dressed as the famed Caped Crusader for the photoshoot. The reality superstar put her own sultry spin on Dark Knight’s attire, wearing a custom Kwame Adusei jumpsuit. The black leather jumpsuit features an under-bust muscle bodysuit, a plunging deep neckline, pointy shoulder pads and a slight flare on the leg.

Jenner’s glam honored the comic book hero, too and consisted of a black, yellow and pearly luminescent eyeshadow with a dramatic winged eyeliner and a glossy neutral lip. “The Kardashians” star stayed true to a sleek aesthetic and parted her hair on the side and slicked it back into a low bun. She also added long black pointy nails.

Jenner continued to commit to the theme of the new launch, taking to her Instagram story to share a mirror selfie of her outfit of the day. The photo sees the media personality posing in all-black attire. To let the look speak for itself, she opted for minimal accessories and styled her hair straight.

Her ensemble consisted of a black minidress, which she complemented with Balenciaga’s Emo Leather Bucket bag. The shoulder bag is washed in black calfskin and includes aged-silver hardware, an adjustable shoulder strap and removable belt around the bag. For footwear, Jenner completed her look with Balenciaga’s Coperni Square-Toe Boots. The knee-high silhouette has an elongated square-toe and mid-block heel.

Venus Williams turned heads in her latest glittery red carpet.

The tennis star hit the premiere of “Batman” on Tuesday night in New York. The film, which hits theaters on Friday, is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson in the title role with Zoe Kravitz playing opposite him as Catwoman.

Williams hit the red carpet ahead of the premiere in a sparkling purple gown from Dolce & Gabanna. The dress featured a slight cutout detail in the torso and thick black straps. Williams opted for no accessories but wore a bright lip color.

Williams always brings the edge in her personal life as well as A-list events. Over the weekend, she hit the SAG Awards in a white one-shoulder gown by Dolce & Gabbana paired with a metallic silver corset bodysuit. She added to the icy look with white strappy sandals and sparkly accessories. Williams attended the event to celebrate her father and her family as the Venus and Serena Williams biopic, “King Richard,” was nominated for two awards, one of which it won.

On the court, Williams of course opts for designs from her own EleVen by Venus label as well as Wilson, for which she serves as an ambassador. More recently, Williams was announced as an ambassador for Lacoste.

These Razzie Nominees Had the Worst Films of the Year — But the Costumes Have to Be Seen https://footwearnews.com/entertainment-news/awards/zoolander-2-batman-v-superman-costume-razzie-style-317800/ https://footwearnews.com/entertainment-news/awards/zoolander-2-batman-v-superman-costume-razzie-style-317800/#comments Fri, 24 Feb 2017 21:02:13 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=317800 Two days before Hollywood toasts its finest, the Golden Raspberry Awards present an annual roasting of some of the past year’s worst cinematic fare.

Dubbed the Razzies, the 37th annual (dis)honors will be revealed on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s Oscars telecast, airing at 7 p.m. ET on ABC.

“Zoolander No. 2” leads with nine nods, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor and Worst Director (Ben Stiller), Worst Supporting Actress (Kristen Wiig) and Worst Supporting Actor (Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson). The critically panned “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” wasn’t spared, either. The action flick comes in second place with eight nominations.

Though the movies earned critical wrath, they did have some striking costumes certainly worth of praise — particularly “Zoolander No. 2,” Stiller’s follow-up 15 years after “Zoolander,” his skewing of the fashion industry. Plus, any flick that can get cameos out of Alexander Wang, Anna Wintour, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn and Katy Perry deserves some kudos.

Wardrobe from “Zoolander No. 2,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and more than 100 costumes from several Oscar-nominated movies are currently on display at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum’s 25th annual “Art of Motion Picture Costume Design” exhibition in Los Angeles (free and open to the public, running through April 22).

Here, we look at some of best costumes seen in the films ahead of the “anti-Oscars.”

As male model Hansel McDonald, Wilson’s character embraces bohemian-inspired looks that include statement accessories, loose-fitting shirts, espadrilles and slip-ons. Stiller’s Wilson channels fashion-forward looks that include sequins, bold collars and tailored wares.

They stuck to the styles in both iterations; however, Will Ferrell as Mugatu and Wiig as Alexanya Atoz had the most avant-garde pieces. Ferrell wore an elaborate full-body suit with extraordinary fringe detail and a wild head accessory and shoulder piece. Meanwhile, Wiig’s character could hardly walk (or breathe) in a floor-length deep purple gown with head-smoothing, textural collar.

Costumes from “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” are also presented, including Gal Gadot’s updated Wonder Woman ensemble and knee-high boots, which are made of plastic.

Speaking to Footwear News in a previous interview, a representative from Warner Bros. Studio Tours shared the inspiration behind the design. “It’s a really thick plastic that’s easy to maneuver so that’s not too heavy, but looks heavy on camera,” the rep said. “The costume is based on the new 52 [DC Comics series] Wonder Woman. She’s very gladiator — even the shoes — they are such battle heels for a woman. She comes from Amazonia, so that’s the intent behind what she wears.”

This weekend, the much-anticipated DC Comics movie “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” hits theaters in the U.S. and will pit the Dark Knight against the Man of Steel in epic battle.

Since the day news leaked about the new movie (starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in the titular roles), fans of the popular superheroes have been taking sides — are you for the alien who fights for truth and justice, or the billionaire vigilante who will defend humanity at any cost?

Check out the latest trailer for the movie here:

Plenty of other websites are offering detailed analysis on the pros and cons of each comic book legend, so we’ll just stick with what we do best: talk about shoes.

In the months leading up to the release, licensed footwear featuring DC’s biggest heroes has been hitting shelves across the globe. So in the spirit of the movie, we ask: Who has the coolest looks? Let’s assess the best of each:

BATMAN
The defender of Gotham has one special version of the Converse Chuck Taylor high-top out on the market now for kids and adults, priced from $35 to $60. The shoe is part of Converse’s special DC Comics collection, which was re-released recently and also features The Joker and Wonder Woman. In our opinion, the Bat gets points for partnering with such a hip brand, but we wish there was more than one choice.

SUPERMAN
And last month, Puma unveiled a collaboration with DC featuring the famous Kryptonian on some of the brand’s classic silhouettes, including the Suede, Carson Runner and Cabana Racer. The line is available now for boys and girls, age 2 to 12 years, with prices ranging from $45 to $55. On the upside, the collection has a lot of variety, with multiple silhouettes and colorways. On the downside … actually, there is no downside. So it looks like Superman wins.

Oh, but wait! For those who don’t want to take sides, there’s the official “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” collection, featuring not one but both of these great heroes. The line is produced by Boca Raton, Fla.-based BBC International, which has a long-term footwear license with DC Comics.

The company’s kids shoes are stocked at a wide range of family retailers, including Target and WSS. If you’re looking for variety, this collection has it all: flip-flops, slippers, sneakers, rain shoes and even cape-laden boots. Prices for the line start at $8 and go up to $23, and sizes range from a toddler 5 to a boys 3.
