Christian Louboutin and Coco Brandolini d’Adda go way back, as does the shoe guru’s friendship with her mother Georgina Brandolini.

The two fashion designers also share a love of color and texture, which is evident in their new collaboration on a limited-edition footwear collection.

It will be unveiled at a cocktail gathering Thursday at the Christian Louboutin flagship boutique on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, and at Coco Brandolini d’Adda’s atelier in Milan, where she showcases her ready-to-wear line D’Adda, cobbled together with batches of archival silks and vintage brocades sourced from various Italian mills.

For the project, Louboutin brought some of his popular shoe models, and Brandolini d’Adda surplus fabrics from her fall 2022 collection. They also co-created a new boot model, dubbed the Adadda, notched out around the ankle bumps.

The Adaddin flat is part of the Christian Louboutin x Coco Brandolini d’Adda collaboration.

“It’s always a pleasure to create designs in a dialogue with a woman and especially with a friend,” Louboutin said. “We don’t really see life in black and white, we both believe freedom is key when you create. It was a very fun project to do together, and I think this collection is really ‘us,’ which you can see in the designs.”

Only 162 pairs are up for grabs, including flats, sling backs, high-heeled sandals and a variety of boots. They retail from $1,295 to $1,595.

A graduate of London fashion school Central Saint Martins, Coco Brandolini d’Adda has worked at various magazines and also in design or consulting roles at Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, Adam Lippes, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Bergdorf Goodman and Christian Louboutin have come together on an exclusive collection.

Made for fans of both brands, the limited collection is part of Louboutin’s signature “Trash” collection and aims to pay tribute to iconic images, logos and objects of both the French luxury shoe company and the American retailer.

The collection includes a total of four shoe styles for women, one bag and one sneaker for men. A standout collector’s item of the range is the “Apostropha Trash” pumps in silk, calf leather, and kid suede. The style features a 3.15-inch stiletto heel, pointed toe and an array of threads, buttons and other small objects adhered to the upper.

Other styles include the “Cuba Libre Trash” sandals in PVC, metallic calf leather, and kid suede, which features a 4.33-inch wedge heel, round open toe and double strap vamp; the “Arte Povera Trash” mules in PVC and kid suede, which features a 2.25-inch kitten heel and square pointed toe; and the “Louis Junior” low-top sneakers in PVC, calf leather, and kid suede.

As for the bag, the collection features the “Bambi Trash” shoulder bag in NYC collage printed PVC and leather, while the men’s style is the “Louis Trash” high-top sneakers in leather and PVC with mixed media insert. The entire range retails between $1,295 and $2,995.

“The collection perfectly fuses Christian Louboutin’s uniquely playful and glamorous aesthetic with Bergdorf Goodman’s signature sense of humor,” Yumi Shin, chief merchandising officer at Bergdorf Goodman, told FN in an interview. “We’re particularly thrilled to be the only retailer to offer this collection because of the way it champions intentional upcycling, something we value deeply. With the customization offering, we’re bringing an immersive and fully one-of-a-kind experience to our customers.”

To celebrate this collection, two of Bergdorf Goodman’s Fifth Avenue windows will be transformed to make the occasion.

“The relationship between Bergdorf Goodman and Christian Louboutin goes back decades and represents a true partnership of ideas,” Shin added. “We’ve done remarkable things with the brand over the years but the one thing that continues to ring true is the customer’s admiration for the product. From the iconography to the quality, Christian Louboutin is a mainstay in the magic of Bergdorf Goodman.”

This collection comes just one month after Bergdorf Goodman sister company Neiman Marcus teamed up with Christian Louboutin for an exclusive collection of animal print shoes and bags for men and women. The duo’s “Animalia” collection spanned 19 pieces including seven women’s looks, six handbags, four men’s shoes, one men’s leather good and one men’s hat.

Numerous sandals were cast in pretty pink and satin pastels, while others evoked an edgier side in shades of black and red. The shade dichotomy was meant to mimic that of the Victoria’s Secret Angel, strong but feminine, powerful but demure. For those looking to channel their inner Angel, many of the silhouettes featured on the runway can be shopped via René Caovilla’s website.

Naturalizer Just Released the ‘Ultimate Puffer’ Range of Boots, Sneakers and Bags For Colder Months Ahead https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/naturalizer-launches-ultimate-puffer-boots-sneakers-bags-think-royln-1234721028/ Tue, 15 Oct 2024 13:00:00 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234721028 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Footwear News may receive an affiliate commission.

Naturalizer is teaming up with New York-based handbag brand Think Royln on a limited-edition collection of all-weather footwear and sling bags.

Founded by best friends and entrepreneurs Pattie Friedman and Kristin Wielenga, Think Royln co-created a sporty five-style collection, dubbed the Ultimate Puffer capsule, that includes two boots, one sneaker and two sling bags.

The boot range includes a flat zip-front ankle bootie and a standout heeled boot with a removable leg warmer. Each shoe in the collection is made with water-repellent fabric, chill-proof with insulated, breathable lining and features sturdy soles. The collection ranges in price from $158 to $285.

“When we approached this capsule, we focused on what we want in footwear from a style and function perspective,” Friedman said in a statement. “The design details, like quilting, pockets, zippers, are organic to the Think Royln DNA, and the collection had to have versatility. We appreciate a woman’s desire to style herself her way, so the designs allow you to ‘wear it your way.’”

Naturalizer’s senior vice president of product design Angelique Joseph added, “Pattie and Kristin’s vision for high style and high function for women conquering it all is perfectly aligned with our mission to empower women through comfortable and fashionable footwear.”

The new collection is part of the Caleres-owned footwear brand’s Gen N Project, a series of partnerships with women and brands inspiring the future with their actions to advance the ideals of comfort for women.

Naturalizer kicked off the Gen N Project in March with a partnership with Deepica Mutyala, founder and chief executive officer of the inclusive beauty brand Live Tinted. The debut capsule included a collection of slides called Illuminate. Mutyala helped develop the line and appeared in the accompanying ad campaign along with entrepreneur and journalist Lauren Chan and body positivity activist Khrystana.

In August, the footwear brand launched a new ambassador collective with the mission to “amplify Naturalizer’s female-first vision and to generate meaningful and deep conversations around advancing inclusivity in fashion.”

The collective debuted with two founding members – Mutyala and Chan. At the time of the launch, the company said that Mutyala and Chan will bring this new narrative forward through a digital campaign and event series that will unfold over the next 12 months. Both women, and future additions to the collective, are meant to represent “authentic champions of inclusivity,” the company added.

The Naturalizer x Think Royln Ultimate Puffer footwear range is now available at Naturalizer.com. Separately, the bags are now available at ThinkRoyln.com.

Jimmy Choo has revealed campaign and product imagery from its second collaborative collection with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. In addition to accessories and bags, the collection includes a number of shoes inspired by Naoko Takeuchi’s popular manga.

An official release says of the shoes, “Inspiration for five key footwear designs draws from the unique characters of the Sailor Guardians, directly referencing the costumes of each one. The planet symbol of the given Sailor Guardian is an important feature of these five key styles, highlighting their unique identities and underscoring the collectible nature of this collaboration.”

Sandra Choi, creative director of Jimmy Choo, said, “I love what Sailor Moon represents – the power that comes from femininity, a strength found through unity, the belief that you can protect the good. I find those ideas inspiring, and it continues to amaze me how Sailor Moon touches and inspires so many people around the world, the genuine love of the fans across generations. It was exciting for me to further explore the super heroines of this deep and rich creative universe. I was interested in honouring a true reflection of the Manga, the characters – the escapism, and the idea of the Guardians as pop icons.”

New York Lifestyle Brand Brunch Returns Home With SoHo Pop-Up Store https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/brunch-new-york-soho-pop-up-store-slippers-1203695896/ Fri, 27 Sep 2024 21:07:14 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203695896

New York lifestyle brand Brunch, which creates hotel-inspired slippers, has returned to its city roots to open a pop-up store in SoHo, located at 120 Prince Street in SoHo. Following a Sept. 22 soft opening, the team will welcome customers to an event called “A Journey to Nowhere,” held at the store on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 2-5 p.m.

The event which will feature a BonBon candy refreshment station, hot chocolate and live music.

Among several slipper options, Brunch recently released its fall line which features a variety of autumnal hues; in terms of a brick-and-mortar presence, the brand most recently opened a pop-up in Amagansett Square in the Hamptons for the summer of 2024.

FN interviewed Brunch co-founders Joshua and Daniel Sitt via email to discuss the brand’s latest SoHo pop-up and what the team is working on next. Joshua Sitt spoke to the significance of returning to New York City and connecting with the local community there.

“For us, the main goal of any store is to bring people together and immerse them in experiences that evoke the ultimate sense of leisure. This pop-up particularly strikes close to the heart — NYC is our hometown, SoHo is where I’ve lived for the last 7 years, so opening a store in this neighborhood means being able to engage with our closest friends, family and brand supporters since we launched Brunch back in 2020.”

Sitt continued, “Beyond that, our closest collaborators and brand partners are based in NY and provide us with a great opportunity to localize the Brunch experience. We grew up going to Lucali’s, Jack’s Wife Freda, L’Appartement 4F — NY institutions that have prided themselves on delivering a good product and better service. Now, the chance to partner with them feels deeply personal. Brunch has always prided itself on its ability to forge this authentic connection in all of its brand expressions.”

Daniel Sitt detailed the thought process and inspiration behind the design of the pop-up, which features a great deal of exposed wood.

He told FN, “Mirroring our brand ethos, our stores are designed to deliver that ‘vacation state of mind’ where leisure reigns supreme. Designed as a cozy and luxurious retreat, Brunch SoHo evokes the warmth and comfort of a mountain chalet while maintaining a chic and contemporary aesthetic.”

Sitt continued, “The color palette was carefully chosen to reflect our signature style. Rich hues like forest green and espresso brown create a sense of intimacy and sophistication, while natural elements like exposed wood add a touch of warmth and authenticity. A physical manifestation of Brunch and all that it stands for, this space invites customers – old and new – to discover the world of Brunch.”

As for what customers can expect next from Brunch, Daniel Sitt said, “Our upcoming collection will continue to build upon our core lines offering fresh and exciting interpretations for the season. For Winter, you can expect to see our classic styles reimagined with luxurious fabrics like suede and shearling. We will also have a series of hotel partnerships in new markets such as LA. These partnerships will allow us to introduce the brand to new audiences through unique product.”

Joshua Sitt said, “As we look closer to the holidays, we’ll release limited-edition product such as a cashmere silhouette. Beyond footwear, we will continue to innovate across our apparel and lifestyle items to solidify Brunch as the gift-giving destination. This holiday season we will also be launching a gift bundle centered on one-of-a-kind experiences.”

After a Foot Injury, Former Restaurant Critic Danyelle Freeman Is Stepping Out With Her Own Shoe Brand https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/danyelle-freeman-le-seul-shoe-brand-launch-1203695985/ Fri, 27 Sep 2024 20:09:19 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203695985

Why did Danyelle Freeman, a former restaurant critic for The New York Daily News, venture into footwear? Out of necessity, said the founder of Le Seul, the new fashion comfort line she debuted during New York Fashion Week.

About five years ago, Freeman’s life was altered when her husband accidentally ran over her foot with a car. The injury and its aftermath caused permanent damage to her feet, and the entrepreneur said she searched everywhere to find shoes that she could walk in — and wanted to wear.

“I used to have a closet full of beautiful shoes, and this was such an extreme change for me,” she said. “I would look at other people’s feet with envy because I was stuck in orthotics. I started wearing only long dresses because I wanted to hide my shoes.”

Determined to find a solution, Freeman began to learn about the intricacies of orthotics and comfort technology. “I finally decided I would make shoes myself,” she said.

A look from Le Seul’s new campaign starring model Greta Hofer.

Freeman enlisted longtime shoe designer Paul Andrew as her mentor prior to his appointment as Sergio Rossi’s creative director earlier this year.

From there, she began the process of finding Italian factories, hiring designers and refining the technology and comfort aspects of the collection. (Le Seul, a play on the sole of the foot, translates to “The Only One.”)

Features of each shoe include a custom-made insole board, molded silicone gel for shock absorption and foam padding. Dr. David Hancock, a physiotherapist and strength coach, who has worked with Nike and the New York Knicks, serves as an advisor to the brand.

To jazz up the comfort features, Freeman decked out her quilted insole with the brand’s signature heart. And the block heels featured throughout the collection have a heart footprint design.

Le Seul spring ’25

The spring ’25 collection of flats, sandals, pumps and wedges is inspired by flowers and features other embellishments such as bows. “I wanted them to be feminine and attractive, but timeless and very wearable,” Freeman said. Colors run the gamut from black, ivory and tan to bermuda blue, red and champagne.

Price points range from $550 to $1,250, and the founder is meeting with buyers during Paris Fashion week. In the coming months, she plans to open pop-ups around New York.

It’s certainly not an easy climate for independent shoe designers as the big ready-to-wear brands gobble up more market share. But Freeman, who is self funding the business, is undeterred.

“I’m in this to win and I’m very serious about it,” she said. “I’m offering something that’s a need, and I think it will resonate with people.”
